Since cruise ships are flagrant polluters (emissions into the atmosphere from burning fuel and into the ocean by dumping inadequately treated waste) as well as guzzlers of fossil fuels, but Newport can't somehow seem to survive without them, why not take the landing fee that each passenger pays and put that money in a fund that is dedicated to improving Newport's environment? It could be used to make First Beach more sustainable by building dunes, or put toward water and open space cleanup.
