Will you support What's Up Newp?
Supporter drive is on, will support addition of a Newport correspondent
Hi! I’m here in your inbox on a Monday afternoon to ask for your support.
What’s Up Newp’s readership and community have grown so much since we launched in 2012 (and what a wild ride it has been). Every day more than 23,000 subscribers wake up to our newsletter, another approximately 10,000 readers visit our website throughout the day, and thousands more interact with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
I’ve been so fulfilled hearing from folks over the years who’ve said that they appreciate the work that we do and the encouragement to “keep it up” - all of the support, love, and friendship has helped What’s Up Newp get to where it is today.
What’s Up Newp is a boot-strapped local and independent online news publisher. That means we’re not supported by any hedge fund or corporate conglomerate. Almost every dollar (website hosting and resources cost a bunch) that comes in from advertisers and supporters literally gets turned around and put right back into the community - paying our team of twelve contributors to do their thing in keeping up with what’s happening, new, and to do out there.
During the pandemic, What’s Up Newp made a big pivot to launch our current supporter program. Approximately 50% of our revenue comes in now from supporters (the other 50% from advertisers). We are so thankful for our supporters.
Today we are launching a supporter drive. I’m hoping to add 150 additional supporters in the next thirty days. These supporters will help literally fund more reporting and content in Newport - as we add a Newport-focused correspondent to our crew in the next couple of weeks.
The more support we have, the more stories we can tell, people we introduce you to, and news we can bring you.
Our hope is that we will be able to continue to grow our team and continue to be your community news source.
If you appreciate what we do, support our work by becoming a What’s Up Newp supporter today. You can make a one-time, monthly, or annual contribution.
If you’re unable to offer monetary support, that’s ok, too! We’d love it if you could forward this email and tell your friends about us.
If you’re a current supporter, thank you for believing in us. You make what we do possible, every day!
Thank you all for reading and for your support,
Best,
Ryan
